We just ended up getting our 2 day snowstorm from Feb 1st till Feb 2nd. So of course I strategically took off work the following two days after, because who doesn’t love fishing in the snow? Not only does it give a feeling of surrealism but its quiet, peaceful and as a bonus, usually the fishing pressure is down.
I had to decide which direction to go today after I woke up. My first choice was a remote brookie stream. But then I pondered how easy the access would be. Not knowing if any of the State Game Land roads were paved, it could make it difficult to get to parking. I have full confidence in traction when it comes to the Explorer equipped with Continental Winter ContactSI tires. The problem is clearance underneath the vehicle. The Explorer is not the tallest SUV out there. So anything over 20″ of snow has me worried as far as me getting table top’d.
After analyzing my options in direction I decided to just head to the Lehigh Valley. Even though they got a reported 20 to even 27″ up past Northampton I knew if a few places that would most likely be accessible so I took my chances. After arriving it was nice to see the access was already mostly plowed and parking was a breeze.
Now the short trek to get to the water was a chore however. THe snow measured right above my knee, which ended up being about 22″. It sucks walking in deep snow as it is. Then you layer on Boots, Waders, a sling pack, a jacket, multiple layers, a GoPro on your head, a Net, etc. After just a few minutes you feel like youre in the worst shape of your life.
It all ended up being worth it today however as the meat buffet ended up being the hot ticket for todays success. I started off with a nymphing rig but quickly switched over to a modified streamer setup and tight lined it with success. Giving twiches and jigs all while watching the sighter.
Long story short – here’s a bunch of fish!
