I’ve been a Simms believer for ever. But after their latest piss poor customer support experience they can drown in a fishless puddle. I wont go into it as my older post already covers the high level details. But what I will focus on going forward is how well these Orvis Pro waders perform.
Durable, Versatile, Reliable
Those are the exact words used to describe Orvis’ Cordura fabric. And were gonna put that to the test, WITH A RAZOR BLADE!
Just kidding. I am however, excited to start using these in the water. And I am going to keep track of the number of outings starting with the first one tomorrow February 12th to see how they hold up over the coming years. Yes years, plural. That’s because these better last at-least that long. I’m going to assume these waders will get anywhere from 40-100 outings a year, and well see where they stand at the 30, 60, 90, etc marks.
Until then ill tell you what I think about them thus far. The material seems solid, abrasive resistant, etc. I cant tell if its as thick feeling as Gore-Tex but its thicker then any other $350+ wader I know. The built in knee pads are a nice bonus. Because we all know i’m on my knees alot right. It also has the same foldable\detachable inside pocket system as Simms as well as a fleece line handwarmer pocket. The material is a good bit stiffer then other waders however. Not that that’s a bad thing, the flexibility is still there, its just not as forgiving. Perhaps after usage it will give a bit.
I also purchased these in a large long instead of a just large. While the Large itself fit a bit more snug(better fit) everywhere else, while crouching down the seams were a bit too tight for reliability. And the last thing you want to do is put stress on waders seams.
So thats why I went with the long version which gives an extra 2″ in the inseam. A bit baggier overall, but it should of been the right choice for the life of the waders. These waders do also have more of an athletic fit from the start, so a size up or at-least a Long version may be a good choice if youre in between sizes.
Heres some hsots of the Simms G3s compared to the Orvis Pro Large Long fit
Tight lines and prepare for tomorrows fishing report in the Lehigh Valley!
