There’s a-lot of fishing organizations that I have either been apart of or know about in the area. However there are only a select few that I believe do it for the right reasons. Whether its for prolonging a resource, or trying to allow the less fortunate to experience what some of us do for granted 200+ times a year. The Wissahickon Crick Anglers is a large group of people that I believe fit one of those categories.
Its not about the fame, or the ridiculous big fish opportunities that may present itsself. Its about letting people experience an event for the greater good. Putting smiles on kids faces when they are catching their first fish. The comradery that happens when groups people come from all over to share the same passion together.
There’s been many clubs that have held derbies for years and eventually fail. Whether its because of the attitudes or motives of the club members or attendees that it attracts, the marginally poor choice of water for the event to be held in, or the unfortunate ass-hats that are there only to snag fish and glue a mutant stocky on their wall as some form of god like accomplishment in life.
I sure hope that the WCA events continue into the future and continue to be memorable for those that enjoy them. Those guys really know how to run a good event and keep everyone laughing and having a good time, whether you’re fishing or not.
Now lets get to the fishing report. We fished two days this week and while we were after an elusive ~30″ Brown, I was not able to locate him. We did manage to get a bunch of very nice trout however, all released for the next person to enjoy for the following weeks to come.
Our very first fish we got was at a fast deep riffle that emptied into a big pool. I believe it was the third cast with a green perdigon style fly I tied up prior to heading to the stream.
Upon working my way downstream I picked up a nicely colored brown in a riffle.
Then came a football of a Rainbow
And lastly, for the grand slam, a good Brookie(seen in video). We landed probably around 50 fish on the first day before calling it quits. Most were in the 10-14 inch range, with the few closer to 20 as seen above.
The second day there were less quantity of fish had, but better size. The first one of the day ended up being another Golden bow with a nice pink stripe. She ended up taking a size 18 olive hares ear.
Next we got a football of a Bow while targeting another Golden in an upstream hole.
We were then finally able to get the Golden to take. On a size 18 BH Als Rat.
The best fish of the day was a Big Bow that took a small size 18 pheasant tail variant in a fast run\riffle that came in at 20″.
Before calling it quits for the day I decided to strip one of my favorite streamer patterns through a deep hole and we were able to get a Brook Trout to ambush it.
And here is the Big Brown that was finally caught.
