Each year there are always a few streams that hold some ridiculous fish. You get to know these watersheds over time, along with when and where those fish will be leftover at.
This year was probably one with the most bigger fish to hand. I decided to let Andrew and Sean in on the non-sense and see what they could do. Upon meeting at the stream we did some scouting a found probably 6-7 leftover monsters in the 22-28″ range. The biggest, that Sean actually landed, was 8lb 10oz and exactly 28″. His biggest fresh water fish on the fly rod to date.
We fished hard all day going up and down the stream targeting said fish. We got them all to take at least once and I believe landed the majority of them. The success for the day was a variety of size 14 hares ear variations all the way down to size 20 midges.
Even with the low clear water, the perfect jigging motion of a bright gold headed nymph would get reactions out of these fish from about 12 feet away. We were all fishing 5x Fluro and never needed to go down any smaller, luckily.
A few more and a nosey onlooker.
