I attempted to go up to a remote bookie stream on Thursday and fish my way up to the headwaters where I’ve fished before. It would of been a section closer to its mouth and I haven’t accessed it at this location before.
I expected there would be fish but my bigger concern was the terrain to get there. We just got plummeted with 15″ of snow a few days prior so I knew it wouldn’t be easier. I however didn’t think it would be as hard as it was.
There was 15″ here and it was all fresh powder. You know, hte kind then you walk in and sink all hte way in, where you then lift your 5lb wading boot up and rinse and repeat. It didn’t help that I just worked out my legs the prior day. What aldo doesnt help that I decided to lug my tripod with camera gear along a well. Expecting to get some nice stream side fishing shots.
The only thing that happened though was quite the opposite. I found no fish, though I’m sure they had to be there, even this far down towards the mouth. But after the mile trenching through the snow, I couldn’t even make it to the headwaters section that I fished prior. It was just too strenuous. Not to mention I broke the tripod and managed to lose my favorite RepYourWater fishing beanie in the process.
Once i realized the sun was setting faster then anticipated i decided I should head back. It was at that moment where I honestly contemplated just laying there and waiting for someone to find me, some day. My legs were pulsating, I had no water, i was eating snow balls with every step forward trying to replenish the fluids and feel some sort of relief.
When I finally got to the car and geared down my entire pants and shirt looked like i came out of a swimming pool. I always over dress of warmth when going places i know ill be moving alot which then ends up with me overheating. Oh, I ever went back the next day to backtrack and try to find my hat but unfornuately I was unsuccessful. Oh well, heres to better days in the future.
The next fishing outing will probably be next on a stocked DHALO stream as its getting stocked for 2021 in the coming weeks. Spring fishing season is approaching!
